NEW TRAIL CONSTRUCTION
Whiteface Ski Resort, Wilmington, NY

SCOPE OF WORK:
Construct new trails expanding the skiable terrain at Lookout Mountain.

CHALLENGES:

• Drilling while suspending equipment from cable winches.
• Access and logistics for equipment, personnel and explosives in mountainous terrain.
• Completing the work prior to the Winter season.

OUTCOME:
Blasted significant quantities of rock safely and productively to support the team in developing a scenic trail on the much-anticipated Lookout Mountain expansion.

SUMMARY:
Through a combined effort with our partners and customers, we participated in the celebrated expansion at Whiteface.  Our team has a pride in the accomplishment of overcoming the challenging terrain and logistics to create a source of recreation that will be appreciated by many for a long time to come.

WILLOUGHBY TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS
Burke Mountain, East Burke, VT

SCOPE OF WORK:
Blasted rock outcrops to improve Willoughby Trail.

CHALLENGES:

• Steep terrain;
• Working in close proximity to historic cabin constructed by CCC.

OUTCOME:
Blasted rock safely and timely to support team in the trail improvements.

SUMMARY:
The project enhanced the snowmaking efficiency of the terrain, while maintaining the character of one of the most well-known, favorite trails in the Northeast Kingdom of VT.

SKYEBURST & CRUISE CONTROL TRAIL CONSTRUCTION
Killington Resort, Killington, VT

SCOPE OF WORK:
Blast rock to construct two new trails: Skyeburst and Cruise Control.

OUTCOME:
Successfully completed trails in time to be open for the upcoming season, 12 days from start to finish in October. The work totaled one half mile with cuts up to 25 feet.

Drilled holes for groomer anchorage points.

CHALLENGES:

LOON MOUNTAIN, Lincoln, NH

SCOPE OF WORK:

GUNSTOCK MOUNTAIN RESTORT, Gilford, NH

SCOPE OF WORK:
Drilled holes for mounting of snow guns.

CHALLENGES:

RUBY RUN TRAIL CONSTRUCTION
Gore Mountain Ski Resort, North Creek, NY

SCOPE OF WORK:
To connect the top of the gondola with the intermediate trails, by blasting a trail through the highest cliff at the top of the mountain.

CHALLENGE:
To fragment the rock so that it could be dug without breaking it to a degree that it would slump into the roadway.

OUTCOME:
We delivered a stable face through careful pre-splitting, excellent drilling parameters and minimal fragmentation. Our presplit cut was 70 feet.

SCHEDULE:
The MD&B team finished 30% (20 days) ahead of schedule.

SUMMARY:
The mountain management knew what was important, and were pleased that we could provide that end product.
