Scope of Work

To drill and blast 10 feet of rock under 60 feet of water in the oil terminal berth to allow access for larger tankers with more oil.

Challenges

Underwater blasting is only permitted in the winter, as fish have migrated from the harbor. The depth of the water, proximity to the tank farm and vessel unloading facility, 10'-to-12' tides, 28 degree water temperatures, periodic wake from passing vessels, winter storms and constant icing were all challenges for working on the barge.

Outcome

Drilling and blasting proceeded successfully.

Schedule

Six days a week, 12 hours a day, January through April.
